Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year. In relation to our menstrual cycle, it could be related to the moment of ovulation when the egg is ripe and ready to be released – like all the beautiful flowers in the garden that are in full bloom.
It is a time when we should be feeling the most radiant and energised. However, with the incredibly hot weather you may be feeling like me tired, from restless nights and being woken up early to birdsong.
I find Summer Solstice bittersweet – I LOVE the summer, sunshine and flowers, and feel with turning of the wheel a little trepidation as I’d love to cling on to the summer and the energy of this time of year. However, I know how important the balance is and if I stayed in the outgoing phase of summer forever, I would be depleted and exhausted.
Like in the menstrual cycle, and especially for those suffering from PMS or PMDD, these feelings may be similar as you move out of the good times in the cycle, to a more emotionally challenging time too.
