Fertility, Pregnancy and Doula Support

Very special words from a very special family I worked with recently. I supported this lovely lady throughout her whole fertility journey, through pregnancy and as her birth doula. Working with her was beautiful and incredible; she kept me on my toes, she trusted me entirely, she was raw, honest and allowed us to dive very deep. To be able to journey alongside her, to share so many emotions from grief, distress and hopelessness, to such joy, excitement, happiness and love as we moved together though fertility, IVF attempts, pregnancy anxieties and worries, early induction pressures, postnatal recovery and breastfeeding support.
When her baby was born needless to say I cried my eyes out…..even as I write this tears are pricking my eyes. Words can’t express how seeing her hold her baby brings me so much happiness.
I’m so proud of her and her proud partner and what they have achieved together. Oxcytocin rush just writing this.
How do you mend that which is not yet made?
She takes in a stranger, you meet her for the shortest of time and her heart tells her that what you think you want is not what you need, and is brave enough to tell you, how does she do this, who knows but thank goodness she does. Within an hour you break a 20 year wall of pain and remorse and feel as if a part of life that you had decided would not be your path could happen.
The journey is long, it’s a journey that only these 2 people can ever understand because it is so specific to these 2 people, it’s so much deeper than physical healing, it’s a partnership, a trust, a love. It’s tough, it’s wonderful, it’s heartbreaking and it’s everything, you can’t get it right, you can’t get it wrong, you just have to keep going and use all your faith in whatever power you believe in to aim for your goal.
It may not happen, and that is again something that you both know, and that understanding in itself is so powerful between you that it is a bond that cannot be measured.
But it does happen, it can work, and as I sit her now with my beautiful baby, crying as I write these words I thank all the powers for sending me to you.
