A story of hope, strength and resilience.

A few weeks ago one of my very special clients gave birth to her beautiful son. This is not unusual given the work that I do supporting women’s pre-natal and antenatal health and wellbeing. I just love receiving birth news – it’s one of the best parts of my job.

However, this particular birth was hugely anticipated and waiting for it felt a bit like awaiting the arrival of a messiah. When I heard that this soul had finally made his entrance into this world I cried tears of happiness, joy and relief for it was an end of a very long journey for an incredible couple. Their much longed for baby was finally here, after years of heartache, sorrow and grief, their baby had finally arrived.

I am writing about this story because it offers so much hope and teaches us how essential trust, strength and resilience is in navigating the fertility journey. It also teaches us that despite all the science and the expert opinion, divine timing of the soul’s arrival also plays a big part in the conception journey.

My client first came to me a few years ago, having been told from a very young age that it would be unlikely for her to conceive due to her medical condition of PCOS. Obviously we had to do some work on that…….. undoing the harm caused by a medical ‘expert’ telling her that she could be infertile.

Over time we worked on mindset, we incorporated reflexology, fertility massage therapy, I treated her husband, we did guided visualisations and meditations, ancestral healing and connected lots to the spirit of the incoming soul. Everything I pulled out of my tool box she trusted and embraced. Over our time of working together she experienced everything from invasive investigations and surgery, miscarriages to IVF attempts that resulted in disappointment and grief.

I think the worst day for me – as her therapist – holding and supporting her on her journey, was on New Years Eve 2017, when I learnt that she had miscarried her IVF baby. On that day I even started questioning my job, my role and whether I was up to this work as it all just seemed too cruel for words.

After the miscarriage, she was told that it was very unlikely that she would conceive either naturally or through IVF. She was naturally devastated.

A few sessions on she came back to see me and reported an amazing experience that had happened to her. She told me that whilst she was feeling really upset about it all, she had very clearly heard a voice speak to her. This voice told her ‘don’t give up on me’.

When she told me, I went all cold and came out in goosebumps. This once again offered hope in a very bleak situation.

Only a few weeks later, she became pregnant, naturally without any medical assistance at all, despite being told that this would not be possible.

“Don’t give up on me”

I was so lucky and privileged to support her all the way through her pregnancy from early on until the end. I watched her blossom and bloom and witnessed her awe and delight in her changing body and the healthy baby within her that her body was growing.

Despite all that she had been through she had so much trust in herself and her body and made decisions and birth plans that were right for her and her husband even though consultants wanted to wrap her in cotton wool and ‘risk manage’ and medicalise her birth.

She went on to give birth naturally in the midwife led birthing unit in Bristol with little involvement from a wonderful midwife who understood her journey and recognised and honoured her ability, strength and power to do it her way and gave her space and respect.

I feel so very honoured to have been allowed in and trusted to be a part of this wonderful lady’s support team. She has taught me so much about how utterly strong women can be when faced with so many heart wrenching moments in their lives, for despite this she always had so much positivity and belief that it would all be ok.

And it really was, it was beautiful and it was just as she had hoped it would be.

This morning, I was lucky enough to have met her little man for the very first time, well on the outside rather than the inside. This amazing soul, that we were all cheerleading into being, and that was really meant to be, despite all odds.

I’m so proud of them all and my heart bursts with delight when I reflect on this story. The family of warriors and the very special baby that finally arrived.
